The City of Medicine Hat, Natural Gas & Petroleum Resources (NGPR) Department wishes to obtain pricing from service companies who provide high quality surface casing vent flow meters. The purpose is to complete flow and build-up testing as per AER Directive 020 requirements. As NGPR continues its accelerated abandonment campaign in Alberta, numerous wellbores are being identified with surface casing vent flows (scvf). As per AER Directive 020 Well Abandonments, all wells with scvf’s must be tested and repaired prior to cut and cap operations. Through recent well file review, ~95 wells have been identified with a positive scvf. 98% of the wellbores are sweet shallow natural gas and the remaining 2% are low concentrated sour gas/oil wells. The City of Medicine Hat does not have any critical sour wellbores. Most surface casing vent flow assemblies consist of a 2” candy-cane style vent w/ a 2” valve.
